The AIAFF1158 provides scholarships for our members of the Auxiliary and active members of the IAFF 1158.
Auxiliary to the Clearwater Fire Fighters Local 1158 Scholarship Guidelines
Eligibility:
This scholarship applies to all dependents of the Members of the Clearwater Fire Fighters Local 1158 (“Local”) who are in good standing with the Local and with a membership of at least 2 years. Applicant may receive the scholarship a limit of one time. If the applicant does not receive the scholarship, they may apply again the following year provided all requirements are met.
Academic Requirements:
Applicant must be a high school graduating senior or have graduated from school within the last two years in which the scholarship is awarded. Applicant must meet the admission requirements, academic or otherwise, of the particular institute that the candidate plans to attend.
Basis of Selection:
Selection will be based on a random-select drawing of qualified applicants. The first drawing will be in May and done by the President of the Auxiliary to the Clearwater Fire Fighters Local 1158 (“Auxiliary”) and two (2) Members of the Scholarship Committee of the Auxiliary. The drawing will take place at the Annual Fire Fighter’s Ball. The winner and 2 alternates will be drawn.
Amount and Description:
The Auxiliary will give one $1,000.00 scholarship per year. The money will come from the Auxiliary’s Scholarship Fund and will be paid directly to the institution that you will be attending and will be awarded beginning in the year. The Scholarship is to be presented to the winner by the Auxiliary with a picture of the presentation returned to the Auxiliary’s Secretary. A picture will be published in a newsletter and scrapbook. The guidelines, amount ($) and quantity (number) of scholarships will be reevaluated each year by the scholarship committee and a recommendation made to the executive board. The scholarship is to be used at an accredited continuing education program and is to be used as needed for tuition, required fees, books and supplies only. The scholarship will be revoked if the winning applicant does not complete the first semester of the continuing education program and the monies will be reimbursed to the Auxiliary if such a condition arises. Scholarship is non-renewable.
Application:
Application forms will be issued by the Auxiliary and will be available to the Local. Completed form with required documentation must be postmarked April 1st.
